When most people think about business success, they think about strategy, technology, networking, and leadership. But one important skill is often overlooked: the ability to communicate, connect, and make people feel comfortable.
Comedy taught me that one of the most powerful tools in business is the ability to understand people and create meaningful connections.
I was born and raised in Srirangam, a small town in Tamil Nadu, India. English was not my first language. While I grew up speaking Tamil and learning other languages, adapting to American English was a completely different experience.
My professional journey took me into the technology industry, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, a Master’s degree in Science, built a career in technology, founded companies, and worked with organizations around the world.
But along the way, I discovered another passion: comedy.
Finding My Voice Through Comedy
People often told me I had a natural sense of humor, and eventually someone encouraged me to try stand-up comedy.
I decided to take the challenge and performed in Charleston’s Theatre 99 comedy competition. To my surprise, the experience opened new doors. I became involved with comedy performances, earned opportunities through The Dave Ugly Show, and appeared on the Jonas Mount Radio Show.
What started as a personal challenge became one of the greatest learning experiences of my life.
Comedy helped me become a better communicator, leader, and business professional.
