Everyone Deserves to Be Seen
When I was young, I loved making new friends. I found happiness in simple moments and always believed that if something brought joy to me, it could also bring happiness to others.
As children, we often do not realize how much our words and actions can affect someone else. A small act of kindness can create confidence, hope, and a sense of belonging.
Sometimes, simply making someone feel valued can change their entire life.
A New Student Who Needed a Friend
One day at school, a new student joined our class.
From his first day, I noticed that other students treated him differently. They teased him, and slowly he began spending more time alone. Every day, he sat quietly in the corner of the classroom while others played and talked together.
I remember looking at him and thinking:
“He must feel so lonely. Why has nobody tried to become his friend?”
One day, I saw him crying as he walked toward the principal’s office. He was planning to leave the school.
I followed him and asked:
“Why are you crying? Why do you want to leave?”
A Friendship That Changed Everything
He shared how hurt he felt because of the way others treated him. He explained that he felt alone and unwanted.
Listening to him made me feel terrible. I wondered why I had not reached out sooner.
I asked him a simple question:
“Can I be your friend?”
I gave him a hug and invited him to join me for snacks in the school cafeteria.
During that time, I learned more about him. I discovered that he was talented, intelligent, and passionate. He was excellent in mathematics and loved basketball. He had even won several awards in sports.
The things that others overlooked were actually some of his greatest strengths.
The Importance of Standing Beside Someone
After we finished our snacks, I held his hand and walked back into the classroom with him.
The moment we entered, everyone looked surprised.
I was considered one of the popular students, and many people could not understand why I chose to be friends with him.
But I did not care what others thought.
I introduced him to my classmates and shared all the wonderful things I had learned about him. I told them about his talent in math and his achievements in basketball.
Soon, everyone began talking with him and welcoming him into the group.
Before long, he became one of the most respected students in the class. He helped others with math, shared his basketball knowledge, and became an important part of our classroom.
The Impact of Kindness
Years later, he thanked me for becoming his friend during that difficult time.
He told me that if someone had not reached out to him, he may have given up on school and lost hope.
That moment reminded me of something important:
A person does not always need a big solution. Sometimes they simply need someone to believe in them.
A kind word.
A welcoming smile.
A genuine friendship.
These small actions can restore someone’s confidence and remind them of their value.
Everyone Has Value
Dignity means recognizing the worth of every person.
We never know what someone else is experiencing behind the scenes. A person who feels invisible today may become someone extraordinary tomorrow if they receive the encouragement they need.
Treat people with kindness. Include others. Stand up for those who feel alone.
Sometimes, being a friend is the greatest gift we can give.
