You Never Know What You’ll Get Back

One of my favorite beliefs is that we should never stop learning.

Whether it’s technology, business, communication, or life itself, every experience gives us an opportunity to grow. That’s why I make it a priority to attend workshops, seminars, and networking events whenever I can.

In November 2016, I attended a Career Development Workshop at New Horizons Training Center in Orlando, Florida. My goal was simple—to learn something new, stay current with technology and industry trends, and connect with other professionals.

I arrived expecting to be a student.

Instead, I was given an unexpected opportunity.

An Unexpected Invitation

During the workshop, organizer Lisa Manzi invited me to the stage to share my own experiences with the audience.

Without any advance notice, I found myself speaking for nearly half an hour about LinkedIn—how professionals can build meaningful connections, strengthen their profiles, expand their networks, and create new career opportunities.

Although I hadn’t planned to present that day, I was honored to share what I had learned through my own experiences.

It reminded me that sometimes the best opportunities come when we least expect them.

Learning and Teaching Go Hand in Hand

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that we are never only teachers or only students.

Every person has something to teach.

Every person has something to learn.

The more we share our knowledge, the more we often receive in return. Conversations create new ideas. Questions lead to new perspectives. Helping others grow often helps us grow as well.

Knowledge becomes more valuable when it is shared.

Keep Showing Up

No matter where you are in your career or personal journey, continue learning.

Attend workshops.

Ask questions.

Meet new people.

Share your experiences.

You never know when an ordinary day will become an extraordinary opportunity—or how one conversation might change someone’s life, including your own.

Always be willing to learn.

Always be willing to teach.

You never know what you’ll get back.
