Some people follow a straight path in life.

They choose a career, build experience, and stay within one familiar lane.

Others take a different journey.

They adapt. They learn. They start over. They take chances. They walk into unfamiliar places and create opportunities through determination, curiosity, and hard work.

Sridhar Rangaswamy — known by many as Sri — is one of those people.

His journey began in Chennai, India, and eventually took him across continents, industries, and careers. From government work in India to becoming an IT professional in the United States, from working with Oracle and NASA-related projects to becoming a motivational speaker, comedian, educator, and humanitarian, Sri’s story is a reminder that a person is never limited to where they begin.

A life can expand far beyond the first chapter.

From Chennai to the World

Before America, Sri’s journey had already crossed international borders.

Growing up in Chennai (formerly Madras), India, Sri began his career in humble positions, including working as a Sales Representative and later as a Lower Division Clerk with the Ministry of Education and Culture in New Delhi through the Staff Selection Commission.

He also worked as a Data Entry Operator with the Income Tax Department in Madras.

These early experiences taught him something that would remain with him throughout life:

Every role matters. Every opportunity teaches something. Every step builds the next one.

His curiosity and willingness to learn eventually opened doors beyond India. Before moving to the United States, Sri gained international work experience in countries including Germany, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Ireland.

Each country added another layer to his understanding of technology, people, and the world.

Starting a New Life in America

On May 16, 1996, Sri arrived in Atlanta, Georgia, on an H-1B work visa.

Like many immigrants, he arrived with ambition, uncertainty, and the determination to build something meaningful.

He later moved to Orlando, Florida, which became his long-term home.

Starting over in a new country was not easy. It required adapting to a different culture, workplace expectations, and professional environment. But Sri approached the challenge the same way he approached everything else:

Learn. Work hard. Keep improving.

Over the next several decades, he built a successful career in information technology and consulting.

Building a Career in Technology

Sri spent 16 years with Oracle Corporation and Oracle Consulting Services, where he progressed through roles including Database Administrator, Project Manager, and Project Director.

His work involved solving complex technology challenges, managing projects, training users, and helping organizations improve their systems.

During this time, Oracle sponsored his Master’s degree in Information Security from Colorado Technical University, which he completed between 2005 and 2007.

He became involved with the Oracle Applications Users Group (OATUG, formerly OAUG), serving as Membership Chair and contributing to the Oracle technology community.

He also became an Oracle Silver Partner and was selected to participate in Oracle product initiatives.

But for Sri, technology was never only about systems.

It was always about people.

Beyond Technology: Teaching, Speaking, and Inspiring Others

Sri’s career expanded far beyond the traditional IT path.

He became an Adjunct Faculty member, teaching Digital Forensics and sharing his real-world technology experience with students.

He also developed a passion for motivational speaking, storytelling, and entertainment.

His ability to connect with people led him to speaking engagements, radio appearances, community events, and comedy performances.

He discovered that technology and comedy may seem like opposite worlds, but both require the same thing:

Understanding people.

Bringing Humor to the World Through DrJustKidding

Many people know Sri as Dr. Just Kidding.

What started as a passion for comedy and entertainment became a recognized personal brand. Sri secured a federal trademark through the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the DrJustKidding name and later filed a separate trademark for the logo.

Through comedy, storytelling, and positive messages, he created a platform focused on bringing laughter, motivation, and connection to others.

For Sri, humor is more than entertainment.

It is a way to bring people together.

A Passion for Service and Community

Sri has always believed success is not only measured by career achievements.

It is also measured by the impact we create.

In 2001, he founded Sai Sharan Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to community service and spiritual activities inspired by the teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba.

The organization later received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and supported charitable initiatives, youth programs, community events, and service activities.

Sri has also served on community boards, participated in civic activities, and continuously looked for ways to help others.

His philosophy is simple:

Achievement becomes more meaningful when it benefits people beyond yourself.

NASA, Government Delegations, and Global Recognition

Sri’s passion for science and exploration led him to work with NASA-related projects at Cape Canaveral.

He has often spoken about his admiration for space exploration and the importance of curiosity and innovation.

In 2016, the Government of India selected Sri as one of only 24 delegates from the United States to participate in IndiaSoft, an international technology collaboration program.

He was also selected for additional international opportunities, representing the connection between technology communities across countries.

These experiences reflect something important about Sri’s journey:

A person’s background does not define their future. Their willingness to learn and contribute does.

A Life Built on Curiosity

One of the most unique parts of Sri’s story is the variety of paths he has explored.

He has been:

  • An IT professional
  • A project leader
  • An educator
  • A nonprofit founder
  • A motivational speaker
  • A comedian
  • A writer
  • A community volunteer
  • A chess enthusiast
  • A technology advocate
  • At first glance, these interests may seem unrelated.

But they all connect through one common theme:

A desire to learn, create, and inspire.

Thirty Years of Growth and Transformation

When Sri looks back at his journey from Chennai to Orlando, he does not only see career milestones.

He sees challenges overcome.

He sees opportunities created.

He sees lessons learned.

The journey from working as a Lower Division Clerk in India to becoming a technology leader, educator, entrepreneur, entertainer, and humanitarian in the United States was not created overnight.

It happened one decision at a time.

One challenge at a time.

One opportunity at a time.

The Real Success Story

Success is often measured by titles, salaries, or achievements.

But Sri’s story shows another definition of success.

Success is having the courage to begin again.

Success is continuing to learn even after achieving stability.

Success is using your experiences to help others.

Success is leaving behind something more valuable than a resume — a positive impact.

From Chennai to Orlando, Sri’s journey represents resilience, adaptability, and the belief that life can continue expanding when we stay curious and never stop moving forward.
